Sustainability: Not a one-size-fits-all solution

Dairy farmers throughout Idaho and Utah are hungry for answers as they navigate the path toward achieving the industry's 2050 goal to be greenhouse gas neutral. Recognizing the many routes to success, Dairy West and Idaho Dairymen's Association offered two peer-to-peer experiences to Royal Dairy in Royal City, Washington, and Fair Oaks Farms in Fair Oaks, Indiana.

These tours showed the dairymen how sustainability practices can vary among operations proving that success isn't a single answer. With these new insights, the producers must keep in mind the differences of the region and their farms. Those who participated in the sustainability trips may be able to implement certain aspects of the technologies they observed, but more than likely, it will not be completely replicable.
