What does food mean to you?

Food is important in all our lives. It connects us. Nourishes us. And has many more meanings to different people. We asked our Registered Dietitians on staff what food means to them to help celebrate National Registered Dietitian Day. They generously provided their answers.

Jaclyn St. John, MS, RDN, LD - Food to me is connection! It's social, it's love, it's life! Love to hear what food means to you - share with us in the comments!

Calla Chapin, RDN, LD - The first thing that comes to mind is being 3 years old, standing on a chair, and helping my grandpa make biscuits! To me food is love, family, history, and tradition!

Heidi Martin, MS, RD, LD - Food has always been an important part of my life, from producing food with my family on our small farm when I was young to making a career out of food as a dietitian. Throughout my life many different aspects of food have brought me joy and a sense of pride.

Ann Lokuta, MPH, RDN - For me, food is an avenue for adventure! Whether it’s searching for that item on the restaurant menu that I’ve never tried, visiting a dairy farm for the first time, or perusing the local Indian market in SLC…there’s always a new experience to have around food!

Crystal Wilson, Ed.S, RDN, LD, FAND, ACE Certified Health Coach, SHRM-SCP - Food is at the heart of so many things for me and my family. Food represents nourishment, love, connection, enjoyment and experience!

Kristi Spence, MS, RDN - For me food is what connects us, it is what brings us together. Food makes memories!

Rashel Clark, MS, RDN - Food is simply delicious!
