Dairy Farm Family Scholarships
Dairy West is proud to offer college and trade school scholarships to immediate family members of Utah and Idaho dairy farm families and their employees. An immediate family member is defined as a child, grandchild or spouse of the eligible permit holder or dairy farm employee. Applications are open from December 1, 2024 to February 28, 2025.
Scholarship Guidelines and Eligibility – Please read carefully
Scholarships are open to immediate family members of an Idaho or Utah dairy farm permit holder and current dairy farm employees. The dairy operation must have a valid milk permit at the time the application is submitted. Applicants must provide the farm owner’s name, the farm’s name and the farm’s permit number to be eligible.
Scholarships are awarded based on academic record, work experience, dairy plans, leadership experiences, community involvement.
Scholarships will be awarded to both agricultural-related and non-agricultural majors, and scholarships may be applied toward undergraduate or graduate degree programs or trade/technology schools.
Each applicant is eligible to receive this scholarship a maximum of two times. (These do not need to be consecutive years.)

Applicants must include two current signed letters of recommendation with the application. PDF is the preferred document type for letters of recommendation although other types will be accepted. Please note that grandparents and parents may not provide recommendation letters. If you are an employee’s immediate family member, you may use the farm owner for a recommendation. Letters of recommendation dated prior to December 1, 2024, will not be accepted.
Applicants are required to provide a copy of either their high school transcripts for graduating high school seniors or college transcripts for continuing education students. Unofficial transcripts from the applicant’s school are also acceptable.
Scholarships cannot be deferred for use at a later date. Scholarship monies must be applied to the recipient’s school tuition in the year in which the scholarship was awarded, or the scholarship will be forfeited.
In July, scholarship checks will be mailed directly to the institution indicated on the application and/or scholarship agreement. Payment will not be made to any individual person.
Scholarship recipients will be asked to provide a photo of themselves and a short paragraph of thanks to be used in Dairy West public relations efforts.
All documents must be received by the deadline date. Partial applications and late entries will not be considered.
Failure to follow the above guidelines may result in the application not being considered.
Scholarship Scoring:
Blinded applications will be judged by a committee of dairy farmers. The following areas will receive a score from each judge the totals will be added. The 24 students with the highest scores will be awarded a scholarship.
- Letters of Recommendation (0-10 points)
- GPA (0-5 points)
- Essay Question One on Accomplishments (0-20 points)
- Essay Question Two on Goals (0-20 points)
- Total Possible Points per Judge 65
Applications must be submitted by 5 pm on Friday, February 28, 2025. Applicants will receive an email with their result by May 9, 2025.
